Jamaica

Boasting brilliant blue oceans, year-round sunshine and a laid-back lifestyle, Jamaica is the perfect place to sample Caribbean life.

Renowned for its laid back approach to life, the island of Jamaica is a picture postcard paradise just waiting to be explored.

Jamaica has over 600 miles of stunning coastline with some of the best beaches in the Caribbean.  Seven Mile Beach, Doctor’s Cove Beach and Frenchman’s Beach are some of the most popular with visitors who can sunbathe, snorkel and scuba dive or whizz along the coast on a jet ski adventure.

Are you a Pirates of the Caribbean fan? Then you need to head to Kingston, the island’s capital, where you can explore Port Royal and hear about the looting and lewd lifestyle of real pirates.  While in Kingston, a must-see is the Bob Marley Museum, where you can learn about the legendary musician and the fascinating Rastafarian religion.

Another great place to visit is Montego Bay’s Gloucester Avenue, where you’ll be treated to live music, street performers and an array of bars, restaurants and street vendors selling local food such as jerk chicken and Carribean curry. If you are looking for an authentic souvenir, wander around the craft market where you can pick up traditional wood carvings and beads.

For those who like to get up close and personal with nature, Jamaica has a lot to offer.  Swim and interact with dolphins at Dolphin Cove, take a short boat trip to Negril to see the hundreds of booby birds or visit Barney’s Hummingbird Sanctuary where you’ll find a range of animals, birds and insects.

Adventure seekers will be completely captivated by the world of activities on offer in Jamaica.  Go rafting along the romantic Rio Grande, climb the star shaped rocks at Dunn’s River Waterfall or explore the Green Grotto Caves at Runaway Bay.

Visitors flock to swim or cliff dive at the Ocho Rios Blue Hole, a natural sinkhole filled with surreal blue water and a mesmerising waterfall - it is an absolute must-see in Jamaica!

There is also plenty to do in Jamaica when the sun goes down.  The island’s bars and clubs come to life with the sound of reggae or steel bands, allowing visitors to dance the night away.  Brave travellers might want to take a night tour of the Rose Hall Great House, an 18th century plantation house which is said to be haunted by a white witch.
