Tenerife has always been a popular holiday destination for families and couples alike with the relatively short flight times and year round sunshine it’s no surprise.
I have been to Tenerife many times before as my sister stays in Los Cristianos however I was looking forward to travelling as a tourist and being able to get firsthand experience of the hotels to pass onto my customers.
I travelled with Thomas Cook and landed in Tenerife South Airport, our private transfer took us to our base for the week the H10 Las Palmaras. To be totally honest this hotel is not much to see outside really however once inside my opinion soon changed. White marble reception area, a beautiful martini bar and the rooms didn’t disappoint either, spacious and well equipped with white fluffy robes and slippers. Good location idea for couples young and old. My next five days were spent travelling around various hotels, dining in the restaurants and viewing the facilities. There were some nice surprises in there which I will share with you and of course some top tips on must dos and hidden gems for a cocktail or two.
My colleges and I visited a total of nine hotels all with different appeal and different star ratings. These are just a few of my favourites.
Best Value Family Hotel – Bahia Principe
This is a very beautiful hotel with lots of greenery, great food and friendly and helpful staff. Three huge pools for the kids and a tiny intimate, safe beach. The location is in a quiet and peaceful place away from the city centre but there are bus stops around so you can easily get anywhere you need. All-inclusive is an ideal option for families with plenty of good food available.
Superb 5* Hotel – H10 Conquistador
Treated like royalty upon arrival with Champagne. Rooms were stunning and the ones facing the pool have terrific views. The food was also faultless in terms of quality and service and location of this hotel make it a true 5*
Ideal for adults – very few children about due to the expense of the hotel.
TOP TIP – It is well worth paying the £100 it costs to upgrade to the premium package as this gives you accesses to the premium lounge with unlimited selected alcohol and teas and coffees.
Luxury Splurge Hotel – Hard Rock
As well as having really nice interior and exterior design, friendly and helpful staff, excellent dining , this is the place for music lovers – you have it everywhere – live music of top quality played during the breakfasts, lunch and dinners , DJs in the swimming pools all day long, and Bose audio systems everywhere, including the rooms.
The rooms are really spacious if you take Rock Suits on the upper floors also for a treat book a Diamond Suite, you will not regret it – you have then even more space, front see view and a Jacuzzi. Roof top bar offers spectacular views and is a must do. The kids club and beach bar areas ensure that this place welcomes families as well as couples.
Must do Activity- Siam Waterpark
Amazing water park for families and thrill seekers. So many different rides, catering for all levels of bravery! Beautiful, well themed location with enough facilities and shops to cater for everything but not too in your face to ruin the experience. Rides manned by well trained staff who clearly had safety as a priority and were vigilant.
TOP TIP – It’s well worth purchasing the lunch ticket as this will work out much cheaper especially if you have a family. Lunch and unlimited soft drinks!
Perfect for Romance – Mount Tedi
The coach will leave around 3pm to begin the journey up mount Tedi with spectacular views all along the way. On route up you can stop for dinner in the hill top restaurant. The final climb is done by cable car and once there you feel like you are on top of the world! This trip should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment and queues. TOP TIPS – it is cold at the top so take a jumper, also looking for a place to propose the top would be really romantic!
Secret Find –Magic Lounge Bar
Set a couple of streets back off the main strip the Magic lounge is my secret find. A chilled yet luxurious feel to the place, with white leather booths and great live music and best cocktails in Tenerife (try a strawberry daiquiri)
Overall I really enjoyed my Tenerife experience and I have discovered some beautiful hotels that I would fully recommend. If you would like to chat to me about Tenerife or any of my travel experiences please give me a call or pop into Thorne Travel to see me.
